Pin@y Policy & Presidential Vision

Host: Filipino Youth Coalition
Where: Welch Park, San Jose
Address: Clarice Drive & Kenesta Way, San Jose, CA 95122

Overview:

Reflecting on President Obama’s cultural and societal impact, this workshop focuses on reviewing landmark legislation that was passed during his presidency. From the Affordable Care Act (ACA), to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the Obama Administration passed signifiant laws across the board. Building on the progress we have seen since 2008, we will look at defining “public policy” and its meaning in the context of being a Pin@y today. When you cast your vote for the next President, what kind of future are you envisioning? We will engage in group discussions based on how Filipin@s can work in concert to advance our shared future.

All IBOTO workshops and events will be nonpartisan.

The purpose of our efforts is to educate and engage the Filipino/Filipina community in our democratic process. Each event will feature performances, an IBOTO Photo Booth, Voter Guides (English & Tagalog), and Voter Registration cards from the County Registrar of Voters.

As the November 8th Presidential Election approaches, community organizations L.E.A.D. Filipino, Fil-CAIA, FYC and the Asian Law Alliance (ALA) are collaborating to amplify the Filipin@ voice and furthermore -- our vote. We hope you will join.

At this juncture in history, it's critical that we stand together. As a community, we are facing two contrasting realities, and as a community, we have the power to inform ourselves and elect a future that emits promise.

From September-November, the IBOTO PILIPINO Campaign will be providing a series of free workshops and dialogues in the San Jose area. Our workshops will be dedicated to increasing Filipin@ voter awareness and registration. From presenting information on the ballot, empowering Pin@ys around public policy, and understanding the candidates who hope to represent us, each workshop will center on reaffirming the strength of our San Jose/Silicon Valley Filipin@ community. As the largest Asian group in California, let's work together to ensure that the concerns and priorities of Filipin@s are represented in major decision-making arenas.
