The San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee has endorsed Daly City Councilmember Mike Guingona for Supervisor in the Fifth District. This makes Mike the official Democratic Candidate in the race to replace Supervisor Adrienne Tissier, who has already endorsed Guingona.
Press Release“I am honored that the party has chosen me as its standard bearer in this very important election, it adds real momentum to our already vigorous campaign” said Guingona, “We are making history here as I become the first Asian American candidate to mount a serious campaign for the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.”
The fifth district is comprised of Daly City, Colma, Broadmoor and parts of Brisbane, San Bruno and South San Francisco. Daly City, which has a huge Filipino-American population, has never elected a candidate to the San Mateo county Board of Supervisors. Guingona finished second in a four way race in June and is now in a hotly contested runoff election that will be decided November 8th. He has been endorsed by two of his opponents, Mayor Cliff Lentz of Brisbane and Vice Mayor Helen Fisicaro of Colma along with State Senator Jerry Hill, three of the five members of The Board of Supervisors, and hundreds of others.
Democratic Committee member, Judith Christensen, who serves with Mike Guingona on The Daly City Council said:
“The members of The Democratic Committee clearly understood the historic nature of the first district election and the opportunity it brings for district 5 to finally be able to choose our own Supervisor. The Democratic Party overwhelmingly voted to endorse Mike Guingona to serve on The Board of Supervisors. Guingona’s vast experience and superior qualifications made him the perfect choice.” Christensen went on to say, “I’ve worked with Mike and I know that he will be a strong voice for our diverse community. Mike understands our District 5 issues and will work effectively to solve problems for our community and all of San Mateo County.”
Mike Guingona is an Attorney who has served on the Daly City Council for 23 years, including 5 terms as Mayor. He lives in Daly City with his wife Jackie Castillejo and son Kai.
